Armadillo Christmas Bazaar

The Armadillo Christmas Bazaar is an annual, week-long event where many different artists can sell their work while local musicians entertain with a variety of genres. I got the opportunity to intern for this event where I made a variety of advertisements to promote it.

Brand Guidelines

The most important aspect of the advertisements I made for this internship was keeping them in line with the brand guidelines. The Armadillo Christmas Bazaar is on its 50th season and they have a team of very talented graphic designers that create the logo and branding season after season, so I had follow these designs to make advertisements that were consistent with this branding. Initially some of the designs I proposed didn’t follow these guidelines as closely as my my employers wanted, but after some feedback and further clarification, I was able to make ads that were approved by my employers and the future ones I made needed less feedback.

Revisions

As I said, there were a couple hiccups early on in the process, but as I’d never done graphic design work in a professional setting before, I wasn’t initially sure where to start. Luckily, my employers were very experienced and they knew how to push me in the right direction. Even so, there were many rounds of feedback that my ads had to go through before they were sent to the papers and digital sites that they’d be shown on. Overall, I’m very grateful for this feedback as it helped me realize the vision of my employers, bring more attention to the show, and give me a bit of experience working with professionals.

Chronicle Advertisements

As much as I enjoyed making these advertisements and working with the ACB’s amazing designers, being able to see the advertisements that I made out in the public - in grocery stores and coffee shops where the Chronicle is available, was an amazing experience. I felt like I was helping the event succeed and contributing in a meaningful way. I’d like to experience more of that in the future, whether that’s in the form of more advertisements, logos, packages, or poster designs.
